Known for his superior craftsmanship, Roussel was a highly respected maître ébéniste of the 18th century. His furniture pieces were favored by grand patrons such as the Prince de Condé and the Princess of Monaco, and his furnishings graced the halls of the Palais Bourbon and the Château de Chantilly. He was particularly renowned for creating commodes such as the present piece, which display his mastery over parquetry and marquetry to stunning effect.
