This elegant hand-chased sterling silver bowl by Tiffany & Co. is crafted in the extraordinary Japanese style that earned widespread praise in the 20th century. Accented with a sweeping bird and graceful branches, this silver treasure epitomizes the Art Nouveau aesthetic.

Edward C. Moore, the renowned head designer and chief silversmith at Tiffany & Co. in the late 19th century, was profoundly influenced by the Japanese Revival style that was sweeping through the decorative arts of the era. While Tiffany’s more traditional patterns followed the established Rococo styles in England and France, his groundbreaking designs showcased naturalistic imagery including birds, cherry blossoms, bamboo, dragonflies and other Asian motifs. This exquisite work draws inspiration from Moore’s work and those traditional motifs, reminiscent of the magnificent Japanese silver that captivated the Western world. To find a large bowl in such pristine condition is truly exceptional.
