A rare and exceptional 12.51-carat unheated Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline serves as the centerpiece of this remarkable ring. Expertly faceted into an elegant oval shape with a brilliant cut, the gemstone is accompanied by an American Gemological Laboratories report confirming its Brazilian origin. Distinguished by their unique chemical composition, Paraiba tourmalines are prized for their vivid coloration and the distinctive green-blue glow that seems to illuminate the stone from within. This beautiful green example shines vividly in its 18K yellow gold setting and additional ring of delicate diamonds around the setting.

The story of Brazilian Paraiba tourmalines is as fascinating as the fantastic gemstones. In 1981 with Heitor Dimas Barbosa, a determined gem miner known locally as “Heitor the Fool.” Driven by an unshakable belief in the presence of something extraordinary, Barbosa spent over six arduous years excavating the hills behind São José de Batalha, Paraíba, Brazil, despite the lack of modern equipment and reliable resources. In 1987, his perseverance bore fruit with the discovery of the first Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline— a gemstone unlike any the world had seen. The rarity of these gems is underscored by the fact that over 90% of Paraiba tourmaline production took place between 1989 and 1992. Furthermore, the majority of Paraiba tourmalines undergo heat treatment, and stones exceeding 3.00 carats are exceptionally rare due to the narrow veins from which they are extracted.
